"Great tasting snacks for a healthier you"

A healthier version of yourself starts with the decisions that you make so we make snacks out of great tasting guilt free ingredients.

DARK CHOCOLATE

Dark Chocolate has been shown to improve depression and anxiety symptoms and to help enhance feelings of calmness and contentedness. Both the flavanols and methylxanthines are believed to play a role in chocolate’s mood-enhancing effects.

The flavanols that get absorbed when you consume chocolate penetrate and accumulate in the brain regions involved in learning and memory, especially the hippocampus, according to researchers.[5] These flavanols increase blood flow to the brain, promote the formation of new neurons, improve the functioning of neurons, enhance connections between neurons, and protect neurons from death by free radicals.

ALMONDS

Almonds increase brain acetylcholine levels, and are an important source of essential nutrients, such as tocopherol, folate, mono- and poly-unsaturated fatty acids, and polyphenols which are known to delay — and in some cases, prevent — the decline in the brain due to aging.

According to Health Practitioner and Certified Macrobiotic Health Coach Shilpa Arora, "almonds elevate the levels of ACh acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter in the brain that helps enhance memory and help fight conditions like Alzheimer's disease.

MACADAMIA NUTS

Macadamias can help maintain healthy minds in many ways. Macadamias contain copper, magnesium and manganese that aid in the maintenance of healthy neurotransmitters in the brain. Neurotransmitters are brain chemicals that send signals around the brain, communicating what needs to happen. Healthy neurotransmitters are a key component of good mental health.

Another way eating macadamias aids brain health is, oddly enough, related to gut health. Macadamias contain around 7% dietary fiber, that aids digestion and boosts healthy gut flora. Researchers believe that a strong correlation exists between a healthy immune system and a healthy mind, with some even going so far as to suggest that the stomach is the ‘second brain’ of the body.

BRAZIL NUTS

It just so happens that the Brazil nut is another great source of selenium. Studies have shown that the selenium in Brazil nuts can help increase any low blood levels of the T3 hormone in patients with hypothyroidism, which ultimately can help them boost their metabolism. This is one of the reasons Brazil nuts are a great natural remedy to improve metabolism and prevent thyroid disease.

Speaking of improvement, the Brazil nut can also boost your mood and reduce depression and anxiety. According to the Swansea University Department of Psychology, their study showed that people who had diets low in selenium showed more frequent mood swings and a greater frequency of panic attacks and depression episodes.

PEANUTS

Bioactives are a type of naturally occurring chemical found in foods that deliver benefits beyond typical nutritional needs. Resveratrol, a bioactive found in peanuts, is believed to improve blood flow to the brain by as much as 30%—which helps reduce the risk of stroke. This may also help to improve your cognitive abilities such as improved short-term memory, increased verbal fluency, which is the ability to connect and retrieve words, and improved processing speed, which is the ability to take in and respond to new information. These bioactives in peanuts improve small artery elasticity and cerebrovascular reactivity. Elasticity and reactivity reflect the blood vessels’ ability to adjust blood flow as needed, and are an essential component of normal, healthy blood circulation.

WALNUTS

Walnuts are the top nut for brain health. They have a significantly high concentration of DHA, a type of Omega-3 fatty acid. Among other things, DHA has been shown to protect brain health in newborns, improve cognitive performance in adults, and prevent or ameliorate age-related cognitive decline. One study even shows that mothers who get enough DHA have smarter kids. Just a quarter cup of walnuts provides nearly 100% of the recommended daily intake of DHA.

Additional research has found that people with walnuts and walnut oil in their diets have lower resting blood pressure as well as lower blood pressure responses to stress in the laboratory.
